ALL OF THE LIGHTS LAND ON YOU, THE REST OF THE WORLD FADES FROM VIEW. ALL OF THE LOVE I SEE, PLEASE, PLEASE SAY YOU FEEL IT, TOO. ALL OF THE NOISE I HEAR INSIDE, RESTLESS AND LOUD, UNSPOKEN AN WILD. THE TRUTH CAN'T HURT US NOW. SO LET THE WORDS SLIP OUT OF YOUR MOUTH. |

It never took too long for her to zone out, especially on days like this. The shop was slow, probably due to the students all wanting time away from work. It was the close of summer, and Katlyn's fellow coworkers were shifting around and shuffling their schedules to squeeze out every moment of sun they could. What did that mean for this Batista? More hours. She could hardly blame them, really. If she could miss work for a chance at some last-minute fun before classes, she would be out the door in two seconds flat. Unfortunately, her reality was a little less spotless than theirs appeared. So here she was, apron and all, supplying the masses with caffeine.
A quick glance of her pink-hued eyes towards the lazy clock face was enough to make her audibly sigh. Three more hours to go, then she was free to run home for a snack before showing up at her night job. No classes in the summer meant an extra job for the girl, bringing her grand total to three. At least her night work wasn't terribly demanding. She was a desk attendant at the local hospital, and at night all she had to do was answer phones and point people in the right direction if they were lost. It wasn't particularly stimulating, but at least she got to sit down.
Lifting her hand, she tucked back a long pink strand that had run loose from her ponytail and work visor. Using her finger, she shoved it lazily into the band of her visor, not caring much if she appeared disheveled. All but one of the tables was empty, the music seeming to be deafening in the silence. At the far table by the front window sat one of her regulars, Mr. Malone. He was an older gentleman, but always tipped and was very sweet. He would sit at that table for hours, reading the newspaper or just watching passerby's out the window. Before she could dwell on what he did in here every day, a loud call from the back signaled that it was time to stop daydreaming and get back to work. Grabbing a rag, Kat expelled a heavy sigh as she went to work wiping down the wooden tables, again.
