stand by my side I'm gonna build you a house I'm gonna build you a wall To keep you safe from it all Take my hand I'll lead you and we'll never be alone | Eli didn't sound entirely convinced, which didn't surprise Benji. He'd probably rather eat his own left foot than let Benji pay for things too much; it was no real secret how much their money wealth was different. Still. Benji wanted to contribute, do his part: and even though Eli didn't think it was entirely that big a deal, Benji sure did.
"How long were we going to stay at the arcade for?"
Wasn't like Benji was in any sort of a rush to return to their dorm rooms right away. That having been said, he did want to be able to get as much done with Eli as he could, while they still had the time. Before having to face the inevitability of seeing their new roomies. Whoever they were. Benji cleared his throat a bit, trying to force his mind off that subject again,
"I mean, we need to get that done and still have enough time to chow down, right?" Benji's eyebrow lifted, just briefly, and he turned to glance up at Eli. Took in his grinning face, which caused Benji's own smile to easily settle onto his lips again. Just looking at him made Benji feel better, and it was something he loved realizing, no matter how many times it happened.
His thoughts began drifting, then, to where it was exactly that Eli wanted to take him that was so much better than a burger joint. Or if Eli even knew where it was he wanted to go. Maybe he was just going to pick something at random? Whatever the case, Benji had to admit, he was a little excited at the surprise. | © seadra of gs |

we'll never be alone i'm gonna build you a house. i'm gonna build you a wall, to keep you safe from it all. just close your eyes. | He just had to hope that Benji didn’t attempt to cater to his tastes. Mayhaps then he would be willing to fight against this little deal that he’d agreed to. If, however, he’d lost this bet… well, that would make it all the more difficult to argue against. Eli just had to make sure he didn’t. The stakes were high, man, and the blond reckoned he’d have to be extra careful with his button pressing this time.
“What, you wanna get rid of me that quickly? I’m offended.” He grumbled… teasing of course! He figured that Benjamin hadn’t intended it to sound as if he were attempting to get rid of his company. No real offense was taken. His smile swiftly returned, curving a touch broader for a moment as his gaze lowered towards Benny.
Joking aside, he reached into his pocket to grab his phone. Clicking it on, it was still pretty early in the day. They had time. Unpacking and meeting their new roomies could wait until last possible moment, right? He honestly didn’t want to deal with any of that today, especially when his mood had just been heightened from the low.
“We don’t have to stay there long, but we got plenty of time.” Tucking his phone back into his pocket, he glanced upwards. It was only a few more blocks before they got to said arcade. His eyes kept peeled for any places that seemed appetizing, too, because he was prettyyy sure both of them would be starving by the time they left. | © seadra of gs |

"Oh, be quiet."
Benji's voice was just as teasing; amused. He knew right away that Eli hadn't meant that, so he took no real offense to it. Even so. Hearing those words, caused a very momentary stammer in his heart. Like, for a brief second, Benji was scared of the day when if Eli had ever said that to him for real. Of course, the chances of that were slim to pretty much none. So, he shook it off, chuckling again. This time, at himself, for his weird thoughts.
It was simple to get off that odd train of thought: all Benji had to really do was wait for Eli to start talking again, then pay attention. It was rare they were too quiet while in each other's company. Of course, they could enjoy comfortable silences too-- it wasn't like they always had to gab, or that they felt it was expected to just be non stop chatterboxes. It was just sorta what they did. Benji smiled, nodding in agreement with what Eli had said,
"Well, I'm down to stay there for however long it takes to beat your sorry butt," They could probably play a few rounds of Street Fighter and go a best three out of five deal, or something. It felt a bit unfair to just make it be an end-all-be-all one match score. There was no fun, no real challenge, to that.

we'll never be alone i'm gonna build you a house. i'm gonna build you a wall, to keep you safe from it all. just close your eyes. | There weren’t too many bad places around this part of town. Really, they tried to take advantage of the fact the high school was right there. There advertisements were typically pointed at them, as if they were a college instead of a gaggle of awkward teenagers. Yet, he was increasingly picky by the moment. It shouldn’t feel different between them, but it did and it perhaps caused Eli’s mind to wander elsewhere.
He was just sulking a tiny bit at the reminder that they couldn’t just flow like they used to. Change was hard for Eli to deal with. He didn’t wrap around it very well, after all. It took him awhile to adapt and tolerate differences. There was no doubt that he’d forget at one point and end up talking to his new roommate as if he was Benji for a moment before realizing he wasn’t.
That was gonna be a shitty day.
He was expecting a lot of those.
But right now, he needed to get out of his funk and focus on the time he could spend with him. If he was a sourpuss now then no doubt he’d regret it later. His mood didn’t need to be trampled on further. So he admired Benji’s smile and allowed one automatically to keep on his own lips.
“We’ll be there for awhile then~” He threw back. It was impossible to resist banter, after all. | © seadra of gs |

"Hah, you are so funny, Eli. You shouldn't tell lies like that, you know, it isn't very nice~!"
Benji mockingly chastised, then stuck his tongue out at Eli and suddenly took off at a mad dash like he'd just entered into a marathon. A loud laugh left him then, he dodged passed a few confused looking other pedestrians walking along the side walk. They both knew where the arcade was, so Benji wasn't worried about getting separated for too long. No, now he was just concerned with beating Eli to the building.
His chest heaved, he breathed; eyes darting around. Trying to find some kind of short cut. There were a lot of ways he could take towards the arcade, admittedly. On the street, a few other blocks, through alley ways. Benji decided, best bet, would probably be to keep on running down the path he was on now. If he detoured in the wrong direction, he'd lose precious time.
Huh, who knew that racing like this could be so much gosh darn fun. Benji didn't really sprint into action like he had back there; it was just something he'd thought up on the fly. He'd have to do this more often!! | © seadra of gs |

He shoulda known that Benji would pull this. The moment his guard was let down (he’d been so careful before!), he darted off through the crowd of passersby. Sighing a tad over dramatic like, he sprinted after him—dodging a few persons and perhaps bumping into a shoulder or two. Eli wasn’t one to give up the challenge, especially if Benji decided this race counted towards their little bet as round one. The jerk.
Eli deserved it though, with the snark he’s been giving. Although he was mighty proud of his comeback that he was going with before he was rudely interrupted. Instead of taking the crowded route stretched ahead of him, he turned down one of the alleys he knew was a shortcut towards the place. If it didn’t happen to be blocked, he would no doubt ace this race with ease. Elijah couldn’t underestimate Benji’s speed, however! | © seadra of gs |

I'm gonna build you a house I'm gonna build you a wall to keep you safe from it all. Just close your eyes. That's everything... Take my hand I'll lead you and we'll never be alone. | For probably the hundredth time in his life, Benji was grateful that he'd been able to call himself a fast runner. It was a blessing, really. Made it easier to get away from things, the few times that he and Eli had indeed gotten into stuff they probably shouldn't have. Always consensually, of course. It wasn't like Benji was being dragged against his will: not like he'd let Eli do that kind of thing to him, anyway. He had his morals, that he had promised himself he wouldn't compromise. Course, it was one thing to think that way-- and another to actually legitimately put into practice. Benji found that his resolve could become easily swayed, whenever it came to his blonde friend; a few well placed words, glances, actions. And boom. Benji would fold, after a bit of time.
Course, that wasn't to say he'd go and do anything horrible. He hoped. He really did. Benji couldn't be entirely certain, however. Nothing really overly dramatic or intense had happened, between he and Eli. They were lucky, he supposed. He had seen, heard of, people who had been friends for years severing ties, or meeting with really super unlucky circumstances. Their relationships crumbling, completely. Benji never wanted that kind of situation to befall him and Eli. Ever. No way, no how.
It was odd, how those kind of thoughts filled his head, while he was running over to the arcade. Benji supposed, with all this time to get there, his mind had the opportunity to wander. He hated it when that happened: after all, wasn't very often that his thoughts led him somewhere good. Benji had a bad tendency to over worry, especially when it came to he and Eli. He huffed heavily, trying to let the sound of his own footfalls drown away the thoughts. Maybe his running was, in a weird way, an attempt to escape those concerns as well. They certainly were starting to feel like they were falling away; unable to keep up with his quickening pace.
Sharply rounding one of the corners, Benji almost stumbled, but then caught sight of Eli also darting out of an alleyway.
Ah, crap!
A grunt leaving him, Benji did his best to propel himself forward, gaze looking determined -- yet he was still grinning -- as he neared that building. Eli's longer legs won out, in the end, however. Benji was just a fraction of a few seconds behind him. He skidded to a stop, chest heaving, a laughed swear escaping his mouth,
"Shit - good race though, Eli. You won that, fair and square," Of course, Benji's glinting eyes silently swore, that doesn't mean you'll win the next ones either. Oh no. Benji was going to have to kick it all into maximum overdrive! Oh yeah! Eli was going down in a plum of smoke. He'd see to that. | |

| It wasn’t often that Elijah truly got up and ran around like a chicken without it’s head. He was used to working out, surely, to keep in shape but it wasn’t like he enjoyed doing it. Whomever did he both envied and pitied, especially when there were more entertaining things to keep to than being “healthy” and all that. Pfft. But nonetheless, he kept his pace at steady beat. His footfalls sounded like a soldier marching to the tune of a drum.
His determination and his lust for victory was something that often strengthened or weakened him. Eli disliked to lose (who didn’t?). Eli liked to win. It was thus that he was a persistent one. It didn’t matter what at. But when it came to need of being a step ahead of Benji it wasn’t purely just because of his competitive streak. It was because he knew Benji was just as. He wouldn’t give up no matter how much Eli pushed.
Usually they would. He couldn’t say he blamed them either. After a while, it did get old. Eli just didn’t know how to stop slamming down on buttons until someone exploded in a ball of fiery rage. It was too fun to witness it happen, after all. And he hadn’t cared much about those folks in the past. They were just… company. He couldn’t necessarily call them friends. That, in itself, was cruel enough to confess.
Benji was, thus, perhaps one of the first true friends he acknowledged. He was the only one throughout the years who seemed to tolerate him, too. For whilst he had chatting buddies in various (former) classes, he didn’t hang out with them endlessly. He kept them at an arm’s length and glued to Benji as if his life more or less depended on it.
Breathing out a long exhale, he rounded the corner. The arcade was just a short stretch ahead and he hadn’t spotted any blue haired shorties lingering around the entrance. A smirk curved proudly across his lips before he realized that Benji was right on his heels. Ahhh. Shit. Well. He sped up, slowing only once he reached the finish line in victory thanks to his long legs. Praise his tallness.
Rocking to a halt, his broad shoulders immediately slouched with his head thrown back in a relieved sigh. If it had been just a bit longer of a run, Benji probably would have passed him. No he definitely would have. It was just by luck that it wasn’t longer. Eli focused on catching his breath. Fingers spread across each hip as he kept his hands there. He relaxed his gaze downwards, however, towards Benji with an open grin.
“It was close,” he hummed—obviously pleased with himself. Eli licked his lips. “Now I just wanna sit for the rest of the day, though.” He wouldn’t put it past Benji to trying to get him to race elsewhere later on depending on the situation. | You have bound my heart So much pleasure that it feels like pain. "Oh no you don't, you lazy bum."
Benji huffed, then grinned widely and stormed over to behind Eli. Shoving his palms gently onto the back of Eli, he began to push him towards the door; teeth gritting a bit. Whereas he was quick, Eli was strong - though Benji still had a bit of muscle to him. Nothing compared to the man in front of him. His feet slipped a bit, but he kept on trying, a low grunt leaving him, voice straining a bit as he spoke next,
"We're going into that arcade, now move."
It didn't sound so much like a request: more a soft demand. Far as Benji was concerned, they hadn't run all the way over here for nothing. Besides, he was worried this might be Eli's sneaky way of trying to get out of losing. Cause he was, gonna lose. Least, that was how Benji wanted to believe it. Maybe the thought of having to do chores for Eli, or cater to his whims, wasn't exactly a good thing. Now that he really thought on it. Eli could be a jerk at times, and he'd no doubt use that to his advantage. Not in a cruel or demeaning way, but....
Benji was, slowly, beginning to regret even offering such a 'change of pace' to begin with. Though, it wasn't like Benji to back down. Even when he wasn't certain about something. He could be pretty stubborn; not to mention the fact that he wanted to win, if only to slightly tease Eli about it. Besides, getting out of doing pretty much anything for a whole entire week sounded great. Especially with classes starting soon.

| “Nooo.” His voice lacked any sort of enthusiasm as he drooped like he’d run miles. Nonetheless, it was flat enough to display that he wasn’t truly going to put up much of a fight. Benji circled around him, then. Eyebrow arched curiously as he glanced over his left shoulder. He only looked ahead when his companion placed warm hands upon his back and began to push. Eli could literally just stand there without moving too much. Perhaps a hair or so, but it was cute amusing to see Benji try.
“We're going into that arcade, now move.”
S’not like Elijah wanted to give up on the whole betting thing they have going on, but it was just so easy to resist and rebel against whatever Benji wanted. Of course, he gave in regardless. That was the good thing about ‘em. Benji was able to make him soft… his achilles’ heel, so to speak. Benny was really trying here. It just made him want to pull as he pushed. In the end, Eli took a step forward—allowing his shorter friend to guide him as he saw fit.
The door was propped open, though. The dark atmosphere and the buzzing of music from various games echoed out of the large building before them. Some guy was slouched behind the counter, looking as if he was about to fall asleep at any moment. Little kiddos scrambled around and their doting parents tried their best to keep up and humor them. But overall, it wasn’t as crammed as he expected it to be. There were a lotta folks around their age or perhaps older lingering around but it wasn’t as if there were endless lines at any place besides Dance Dance Revolution.
Elijah reached back with his hands, attempting to grip the ones pushing into his back. Should Benji not struggle much, he would move them off his back and instead around either of his sides so he could pull Benji the rest of the way into the arcade. Oh so casual. Oh so smooth.
“We’re lucky,” he began, looking behind him at Benji again. “Street Fighter doesn’t seem to have a line.” Eli gave him a lopsided smile and released him once they started to near the coin machine. | You have bound my heart So much pleasure that it feels like pain. I'm gonna build you a house I'm gonna build you a wall to keep you safe from it all. Just close your eyes. That's everything... Take my hand I'll lead you and we'll never be alone. | Benji felt relief, when Eli started moving. A light smile crossed his facial features, but he stayed behind him, guiding him still. It was fun, this way. Not to mention, he could keep an closer eye on him -- in case Eli did try and slip away for some reason. Thought he was so sneaky. Benji's smile began to widen, especially when he felt Eli grip at his hands, which easily moved from along Elijah's back.
It sort of felt like some kind of small, impromptu dance. The way that Eli moved Benji from around his back. Benji was half tempted to try and twirl, a light chuckle leaving him. He had never danced with Eli before. Now that he thought about it. What would that feel like? They'd probably just end up doing something goofy and not taking it seriously; knowing he and Eli. That only caused Benji to chuckle for a bit longer.
Now standing beside Eli, Benji was reluctant to let go of his hands; fingers lingering as they were moved away. Though, Benji was quick to drop his arms to his sides - didn't want to look too weird, at the very least. His gaze flicked around the inside of the building. Huh. Not as busy as he thought it might've been. Then again, it was a nice day outside. Most people were probably playing in parks, or bike riding, or just wandering around with friends.
“We’re lucky, Street Fighter doesn’t seem to have a line.”
"That just means we can spend as much time as we need at the machine~."
His voice was giddy, and that smile gave way to a wide grin. Oh yeah! About an hour of Street Fighter should definitely settle the score. Walking confidently up to the machine, Benji settled close to the Player 1 controller pad. He glanced over at Eli, grin never fading, and raised an eyebrow,
"How does best four out of six sound?"
