It started out with annoying banner ads across the browser. Google searches became almost exclusively sponsored links, insisting on an extra ten seconds just to finish inserting themselves into the page. They covered essential elements of the screen, taking up a good two hundred pixels in the top and right side, flashing uninspired white backgrounds with trails of popular items he was encouraged to buy. Because, Ras was an impatient sort who didn't always unclick all the tacked on installs with his legitimate program downloads.
So, Rasmus began mashing buttons as his fustration grew. As if he could find some secret combination to command away the annoyance.
And then, the impossibly annoying. Every time he clicked a link, it launched a new page. No longer were his swiftly typed keystrokes letters of words with in the address bar- now they were ways to spam his screen with dialog boxes.
There was clearly only one option.
"Computer nerd. Which room?" Ras quizzed a fellow hall-dweller the moment he exited his dorm room, laptop in hand. They gestured to Ricky Ellis' room, seemingly unphased by the sixteen year old's black t-shirt and thin cotton cookie monster pajama pants. Not that it was too out of place- it was seven thirty, still well within the justifiable early morning laze grace period. Not that Ras would have paid much mind to criticism. Rasmus made a beeline for Ricky's door, delivering a swift, insistent knock to rouse the presumably computer-savvy classmate.

The hell was that noise? A small groan came from the lump underneath the sheets. A hand poked and slapped the small bureau, before it found a clock. Ricky's head poked out from underneath the safety of his blankets and his eyes blearily read the numbers on the clock. Why the hell was he up at seven thirty? Why was this accursed person knocking at the door? They better be pretty frigging important, or I swear-
He swung his legs and winced as the cold floor ate away at his warmth. Letting out a grunt, he pushed himself off of his bed, running a hand through his disheveled hair and trying to hide a yawn. Ricky wore a white tank top and matching white boxers, both seemed to have not touched a washing machine in a while. He reached the door and opened it up, narrowing his eyes at the person behind it. Though his anger soon turned into surprise as he saw that it was a junior, some guy he had seen around the campus. "Yes?" There was no need for silly introductions, especially since this person had dared to awaken him from his slumber.
Ricky's eyes soon found a laptop in his arms and his exhaustion soon disappeared into grim eagerness. Alright then, a new project, huh? "Come in, lay it on the desk, over there," he said, moving out of the way for Rasmus to come on in. He gestured towards a desk beside Ricky's bed, the only tidy spot in the room.
That space...that space was holy. That was where most of his hacking happened. It needed to be clean. Who knew when the next time for hacking would happen?

Ras wasn't actually important, but he thought he was, if that counted. Instead of a confrontational reply, he got a yes. Though he put on a show of being unphased by negativity, Rasmus was slightly pleased he wouldn't have to go through the hassle of justifying himself. Not that he'd admit that.
"The buttons no longer work. I need it for homework." Rasmus explained. "Can you turn the keyboard back into a keyboard?" When Ricky told him to lay it on the desk, he hesitated, his eyes traveling from Ricky to the mentioned desk. This felt a little like a medical drama now. Maybe he was more tired than he thought.
"I don't really want to reset the whole thing." Rasmus added, as if that were a default possibility in situations like this. By "reset" he meant wipe to factory settings, though the fact was, his keyboard functionality would return to normal if he had simply restarted the machine. Or, googled, but his impatience would have taken over well before he struggled through the mountain of tabs he'd have to open to troubleshoot. Oh well, he was here now.
The teen couldn't stomach the idea of shutting down InDesign unnecessarily- it constantly lurked in the background, sapping his ram, just in case inspiration hit and he thought of a new poster or template design. If Ricky got curious and pulled open the currently running window, he'd find a poster design that encouraged fellow students to sign up for an art class. With digital design work making up the background of the image, the futuristic fontface brought it all together in an eighteen by twelve frame.
And in the next tab over, there was a book being compiled. He was still fussing with a few pesky linebreaks, but it appeared to be a combination of stories, poetry, and art by other people. Among them was his sister, but otherwise, there weren't particularly noteworthy names. It was the only thing still actively running, aside from the hidden background programs that he hadn't bothered to close.
Ras glanced at the HP x360, considering his options. Did he dare risk this stranger poking around? On the other hand, what good was a keyboardless laptop? Resigned to his fate, Ras closed the distance between himself and the desk, setting the gray computer onto the clear surface.
"You can do this, right? I mean, you're not going to start taking stuff apart on me, are you?" Ras prompted, turniing his attention back to Ricky. Leave it to him to start evaluating the consequences now, rather than before he knocked on the door.

A raised eyebrow and a slightly disappointed expression fell over his face. Really, that's what he was woken up for, for a keyboard fix? Did this guy really did believe in his powers? This was not a job suited for the Bond on the internet. Whatever. "What'll I get outta this?" He asked, as he followed the other guys' movements, noting his hesitation. A hint of surprise flickered in his gut; was he really that scary? He didn't think that he was the most intimidating person, 'specially since he helped other people. Didn't matter, this guy was weird; he cradled his computer as if his whole life was on it. It probably was... A part of Ricky itched to find out what lay in the gray box, what secrets were hidden in it...? He shook himself out of it, turning serious.
"I need to know what I'll get as payment for this, before I begin. I don't do this kind of thing for free," he said, walking over to the desk, raising his hands above his head in a stretch. Stifling a yawn, he continued in his usual deadpanned voice, "It'll cost you extra, I'm not supposed to be up so early, my classes don't start until eight thirty..."
A glance flickered towards his roommate's side of the room and a hint of fear appeared. What a surprise, he was scared of the big bad senior, Seth. It was difficult being around someone he had never lived with before. Especially since the two of them were complete opposites, Ricky didn't know what would be crossing the line for his roommate. Would it be helping some guy out on his computer?
He shook himself out of his thoughts, turning towards Ras, a frown on his face. As long as the pay was good, Ricky could get this guy out of here in about twenty minutes.
Notes: Hopefully this post is better than the other one! ;w;

Weasle. But, it wasn't like he had any other options. The wise choice was to assert the price he was willing to pay, but, it was early morning, and Rasmus wasn't quick enough on his feet for that. He was going to have to relinquish some control in this situation. It wasn't that he minded paying, he just hated this. Right now. This knowing that the other guy held the cards. Impatience was going to kill him yet. " What are you out to get?" Rasmus quizzed, wisely biting back an insult about what he imagined the other teenager needed. " Essay written or something? Editing advice?" Why Ras didn't assume money would be just as effective, well... Who knew. But he really wouldn't mind writing the computer nerd a paper, or doing another assignment. If the other teenager was wise, he'd stay in the realm of language arts, but Ras probably wouldn't argue if the request was for science or math. He could handle tedium. If the kid wasn't looking for an academic price, well... He could always pretend he had other options, besides Ricky. " Or, what? Need your latest book in publishable format? Looking to plagiarize the school newspaper?" Ras had resisted looking over toward the roommate's side of the dorm up until then, but now his eyes wandered there, toying with the idea of a threat. What sort of threat could he level? He didn't know the roommate any better than he knew Ricky.

Another raised eyebrow and a scoff. "Really? A paper? If I'm a computer whiz, do you really think I would need help on an assignment?" He had to bite the inside of his mouth from continuing, it wouldn't help anybody, now would it, if he couldn't being sarcastic? Especially since it might turn out into a fight and personally, Ricky didn't really want that to happen, especially in here.
He rubbed his eyes, trying to keep exhaustion at bay. "What I mean, is money. For a simple job like this, let's say ten, got it?" It was an easy job, possibly too easy for a price as high as ten; perhaps six, even five. It was so easy, he could probably do it in his sleep without any problem. But hey, this guy woke Ricky up from his slumber, something that was a big no-no. Anybody who woke up anyone else from sleep was a jerk.
At his question, he gave Ras a one shoulder shrug. "Or nothing. I don't have anything to threaten you, other than not fixing your computer." He stretched and gave a yawn, taking his time to continue; silence was golden, after all... Conversations were too much for Ricky, too much brain power for something that lasted about half and hour; what he could accomplish in that time lost... "You could go out and get some other tech savy person to fix it, but who's to say their price'll be lower than mine." Actually, now that he thought about it, he couldn't remember running into someone like that; his servers were up and working beautifully, not a hitch in them at all. But he was going to be ready for his rival.
Every hero had an arch rival after all, especially in the digital world.
Notes: ahh, thank you~ I'm glad you like him.

Ten bucks. This kid was no extortionist. But Rasmus certainly didn't mind the lackluster request. He was a bit glad he'd blown off the sarcastic remark now. He didn't want to push the price up, and c'mon, he had woken the guy. A little snarkiness was fine. " Yeah, no.. Ten bucks." Ras nodded. " You've got it. Just, figure that thing out," Now his attention was back on his computer. If Ricky was expecting Ras to pull out money from his cotton pajamas, he'd be disappointed. Ras also wasn't inclined to leave his computer to retrieve his wallet. He opened the internet browser on his computer, then clicked on the address bar. The keys he pressed- a, s, d, f- had no impact on the screen. He didn't bother to emphasize that they worked elsewhere, such as on notepad, or InDesign. " See? What's that about, Mr. Tech-savvy?" Ras pointed accusingly at his screen, careful not to touch the touchscreen surface. He omitted the fact that it wasn't a spontaneous occurence, or that his computer was riddled with the annoying, currently unpresent ads. Fortunately they didn't infultrate his standard Firefox-meets-Google start screen.
