→ nina's parents had ironically divorced six years prior to nina's conception. her mother got pregnant when the two met at a college reunion and drunkenly hooked up, despite the fact that her father had gotten married four years prior and had two children.
→ her mother got custody of her. her mother gave her lots of freedom, spending her time either working – she had become the CEO of a large company – or attending various social events. nina enjoyed the independence and indulged herself in a multitude of activities for her own amusement.
→ whenever nina asked her mother why she never settled down like most of her friends' parents were, her mother always told nina that men were afraid of women who were more successful than them. she always told nina that that was no reason to avoid success and that a pocket full of cash felt much better than a lovers's embrace.
→ nina, who was homeschooled, had primarily socialized through extracurricular activities. because of her tendency to stay in an activity for no longer that three months (save a select few), coming to regency academy and being forced with the daunting prospect of consistency (clubs, friends, sports, everything!) was shocking for her.
