BUT NOW I'VE SEEN THE PAY-OFFS EVERYWHERE I LOOK
history lesson
Emmett didn't remember much about his mother, to be honest. Sure, he knew what his mother looked like from the various pictures of her that were scattered around the house, but the sound of her voice and the smell of her clothes were something loss to him. He was six when his mother died from a car accident. After dropping off her son at school, a car running a red light hit her as she crossed the street. He didn't remember much of that day, only his father crying as his twin baby sisters lay crying in their cribs. Mom soon went from walking him to school every morning to a picture on the family shrine.
Life did not get much easier from that point on. Forced to take on extra hours to support his family, Emmett's father rarely was home to care for his children. Thus, the responsibility of caring for his sisters fell upon Emmett. Already used to helping out his mother around the house, the shift in his responsibilities was not much of a change. Of course, seeing his friends play without him did take its toll, but in time, he began to accept everything new with his life and learned from it.
The older he became, more responsibilities fell upon him. Not only did he have to buy groceries every day, but also had to clean, cook, and resolve the many conflicts between his two sisters. It was difficult maintaining an optimistic cheery demeanor for his family at times. Often when he felt stressed and irritated, a quick chat with his father would quickly change his attitude.
His helpful demeanor often popped up in school interactions. Because he chose to study a lot at home, many people used to ask him for help on schoolwork. Who was Emmett to disagree? Surprisingly, he actually found himself enjoying teaching his fellow classmates. Upon graduating and entering college, he chose to become a teacher. After spending a few years working as a student teacher at the nearby Regency Academy, he was promoted after graduating and works there as a math teacher to this day.
extra credit
- Emmett is 5'10" and 150 lbs. He grew to become a few inches taller than his father, a fact in which he may or may not be secretly proud about
- Emmett is half Italian and half Japanese though he identifies more with his Japanese side
- While he doesn't make it a point to broadcast this, he suffers from generalized anxiety disorder. He has not yet tried going to get help for it
- As nice as he seems, Emmett has a secret love for learning about school drama and gossip. He tries to keep it to himself, but who can blame him for eavesdropping on his students from time to time?
